There are two MTB games out there.

box-l.jpgI thought that Downhill Domination was the only mountain bike game until…Mountain Bike Adrenaline caught my eye in Best Buy.  John Cowan on the cover and some pretty cool screen shots on the back.  Luckily you can get it for only $10 dollars since the ratings are not that good.  You can pretty much tell its not going to be that banger video game like Tony Hawk or Skate.  Here is the description they give to get you all stoked up to shred the gnar.  Bad descriptions from ad execs much like my last sentence.

Straddle your mountain bike and ride the adrenaline as you hurtle down the world’s most spectacular slopes. Speed, dexterity and daring are the three ingredients that will turn you into an exceptional rider. Are you ready to ride out of your skin?

But for ten bucks off of ebay how can you go wrong.?

Redline 29er First Impressions

Monday, January 14th, 2008

Redline D440 29erThe shop just started carrying Redline adult bikes and I ordered up a fully rigid 29′er.  The Redline D440 with 29 inch wheels.  So I took the bike to the tapeworm just up the hill from the shop.  It was a little muddy but the big wheels just cruised over everything in its path.  I did switch the brakes to some BB5 Avids since all I had to do was add calipers.  The bike comes ready for discs.  So that is just a small taste of the test.  I will keep posting about this and more new bikes in the stable.  If you want to try a 29er out just stop by the shop!

Suntour Gearbox

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

Suntour GearboxThe gear box bike has been kicked around for a while now.  I think that technology is getting better and the gearboxes are eventually going to take over in the gravity market.  Here is the offering from Suntour.  Sully from Rotec stopped by and let us take some spy shots before he installed this unit on one of his prototypes.  The weight on this badboy is a hefty 9 lbs (including crank arms).  But just take into account that you are loosing cassette, freehub body and chainguide.  That is around 1.5 pounds plus a pound for the cranks.  So realisticly the gearbox weighs in at 6.5 lbs.  I cant wait to try out Rotecs new creations.  He had a nice aluminum hardtail with him that was geared towards dual slalom / 4X.  Sully also mentioned talking to Weagle to get some advice on a new design that will use the Split Pivot.  Using Lawill and Weagle designs should make Rotec’s new line something to check out this next year.  Stay tuned for more details!!!

FSA Nasty Boy Crankset

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

FSA Nasty Boy CranksThe new nasty boy cranks by FSA are far better than the previous years.  We had one of the local rippers try them out and he put together his thoughts on the cranks.  The biggest improvement that I noticed was the fact that they machined each crank after they were painted.  I have had a few sets of BMX style cranks that when the sprocket was bolted to the arm, it wobbled.  The build up of paint on one side would make the sprocket not sit flat.  Well FSA has fixed that!  Here is Shawn Wilson’s take on things.

Atomlab Custom Hardtails

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

Instead of having just another hardtail from company blah.  We decided to pick some of our favorite parts G.I. completeand outfit them on a couple of Atomlab frames.  The General Issue frame is built with traditional style and some g.h.y. flair.  We picked the simple White vs. Black theme, without going too out there and finding every white part known to man.  Make sure to see the ghost ring chain tensioner (great way for a frame with verticle drop-outs).  I saw that work on some messenger bikes in 2003 (Messenger Worlds in Seattle).

After that bike we built up a sick park bike.  The Trail Pimp frame has a set of MTX rims built with a KHE Trail Pimp complete by g.h.y. bikesfreecoaster out back.  I personally have one of these hubs and they are so fun.  We did a Rasta pattern on with the spoke nipples and also pimped out the Atomlab pedals with some red ano.  This one is fully rigid and has some definate BMX influence thanks to Scott (our new mechanic and local ripper).  A picture is worth a thousand words.  Well heres 6000 words. . . . . . . . G.I. Complete $1100  Trail Pimp $1200
