Helter Belter…a little jam in the woods

Billy Lewis pedal stallThanks to Landon at Tonic Fab we were informed of a small get together at this crazy compound in the middle of somewhere?  Landon had gathered a bunch of riders to come to this guys house where he had built a ton of mounds walls and dirt spines.  Amos is the owner of the ORV/ATB/BMX park right next to his house.  It was pretty fun riding all the different stuff he had going on.  The spine to wall ride was the first thing to get sessioned.  With people like Hacksaw, Luciano, Aaron Nachtrab, Charlie Sponsel and Billy Lewis havin fun it was a great atmosphere.  Heres Billy pedal stalling the Dirty Booger wall.

Justin InmanAfter a little while Phil Sundbaum started riding and also some BMX rippers showed up.  Heres a killer shot of Justin Inman throwin one of his signature tables higher than that spine should allow.  The BBQ was going on with chicken, steak, salmon….pretty much everything you vcan imagine.  They had a dope spread.

Amos’ TruckThere was two jump lines that went down the hillside in to the valley of 4X4.  Heres a shot of the loudest beast around.  One comment I overheard from a passenger was “did the seatbelt pop off on you?  It did when I rode in it.”  A couple people went for rides and came back pretty soiled.  Good Times.

Friday, April 27th, 2007

Atomlab Wheels in WhitePhil has been envited to a minimum of three events across the pond in Europe (Qashqai)Atomlab just hooked him up with some sweet new hoops with white spokes.  I hand built them with their red nipples and as you can see, they are super stylin.  Phil is leaving Sunday after Supercross to head down to Portland.  There he will meet up with Lutze from Matchvideozine and take a flight next week.  We are all super stoked to see him throw down in some major comps.  He is going to meet up with Rob Rebholz and cruise europe with him also.  I am jealous.

Interview with Phil on pinkbike

Phil busting a superman seat grabCheck out the interview with Phil on pinkbike.

Why do you ride?
Because it’s fun, because I love it- I grew up riding. I love being on my bike, and pushing myself personally to get to a new level whether others are there or not already…

What would your life be like without bikes?
I could not tell you. I can’t imagine my life without bikes. My life revolves around work and riding. Andy, my brother inspires me more than anyone. One of the best things anybody can have is not just a best friend to ride with, but a brother at the same age and level of riding. He wants to be where I want to be- riding at the top. We ride at the same level but have distinct riding styles.

Ray’s 3Ride MTB Competition

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

Early Thursday morning Phil and I (Crappis) boarded are plane heading to Cleveland, OH for the Rays MTB 3ride contest. Phil had a chance to go visit Rays while filming for the Atomlab video and was happy to be going back. This was my first time going and couldn’t wait to get there. After a couple of plane rides we were in Cleveland and Getting are bikes put to gather and heading over to the park.

Driving up to the park you would never know anything like this would be happening in this building. When you walk in you see all kinds of wooden structures and a giant wooden berm in the middle of the small box jump rhythm. Then you see the Moen course full of wooden berms and bridges. Then there are the big box jumps that surround the Moen course. Then in the back corner lays the skate park. This place has some thing for every one from all levels of riding.

Portland Jump Jam

Friday, August 12th, 2005

crappiswebready.gifFriday night Crappis shows up at my place ready to roll. Sean is in full swing and ready to party! The soobie is all loaded up and its about 6 o’clock, but wait…Chris shows up with the hair die, change of plans! The night before, Crappis and I went back and forth on dying our hair. Well, last minute, why not! Its now 7:30 and time to roll! We roll to F-dub (Federal Way) grab Brett and company.. KANKELS! Grab some grub and some good reading material at Y-not books and off to Phil’s to meet with everyone else. Now we are on the road, Sean and I got 2 sixers of Sparks on the way down, WOW! I had the shakes all night! We slept at a friend of Phil’s in Portland close to the comp. Next day bright and early we were on our way to the jump jam.

It was inside of the BMX park. Cool little area, on the left was a full track and the right was the skate/dj area. The layout had three small jumps, a box, half pipe and some other stuff. Many people showed up for this on their way to Crank Worx. Everyone seemed to have a great time, despite the 120 degree heat inside the park. (okay not really, but it was HOT!)

There was tons of great riding by all, the ams threw down and the pros rode well too considering they were on their way to the biggest event of the year. Chris Duncan pulled double bar spins, HUGE turn down 3’s, and much more. Crappis had a big no-handed no-foot can as well as flips and his trademarked Old school tuck no-hander! Phil was riding well almost hitting the roof with his back flips and tail-whips. Phil ended up 3rd over all and Crappis unfortunately over rotated a HUGE flip over the box and landed on his back, bruising his ribs, and mangled toe (That thing is nasty).

Overall the contest was a hit and next year should be even better. The guys did a great job and we look forward to more events in the future.
