So woke up at 5am on Saturday to go pick up Travis Erickson and head to Dry Hill in Port Angele’s, Washington.

We arrived to PA at 9 am and Travis began to practice. As I hiked the mountain to find decent spots to shoot at, I walked some of the side trails. Wow, the other trails I saw were amazing and looked like so much fun to ride. So back to the racing, I ran into Travis mid course after one of the Keifer guys had broken his collar bone on a tree that stuck out into the course. Travis had also blown up from this same tree, and some others.  All in all people were looking fast on this dry dusty course,really fast. After watching the pros some time later in the day, I decided where I would shoot Sunday.  After practice we headed to the Elwha river to cool off and then set up camp.  After the river we set up camp at the  Elwha River RV Park (www.elwhadamrvpark.com). What a cool place to camp, the owners were very nice and hospitable. The camp sites were nice and clean, even had a commons type outdoor kitchen/ BBQ pit. After setting up we headed back to Dry Hill for the Spaghetti feast! Casey, Scott and all the others that put on a race also feed us. Free food and lots of it, thank you guys again for that! So finally it was time to go get some rest, every one was beat from getting up early and riding all day. Around dusk our group headed to the fire pit, for more beers and laughs. What a fun night 20 or so people makes for a good fire. Around 1230 it was finally silent in the campgrounds.  Woke about 7am got some coffee and headed back to dry hill.  Everyone got ONE practice run today, apparently some people like to poach and get in more then the competitions’ practice amount.  The racing was over about 2:30 and I am pretty sure I got a shot of every single rider. All in all a great weekend and another great race put on by the NW cup!

The GHY race team headed to Mission, BC this past weekend for the Arduum Challenge 2010, also the fourth stop of the BC cup series. The race is widely known as the most technically challenging course of the BC cup races. And the GHY riders agree this course is by far the most challenging course they have ever raced. On Friday the course was open for walking only so riders could pick lines to practice come Saturday. Practice started at 9 AM Saturday morning and the course was extra slick and all the rock features were coated with mud. As practice progressed the course began to dry out and speed up, but this was not beneficial to the riders. Come Sunday riders arrived to a course even slicker than Saturday morning due to rain overnight. And the course wasn’t going to improve as the day went on because of heavy cloud cover and mist. Each rider took their practice run Sunday morning and racing began at noon. Three team riders raced shortly after noon.

Andy Knott was the first of the three. Andy took fifth place in the Citizen 30+ category with a time of 4:54.61.

Jerry Southworth wasn’t far behind Andy, holding down sixth place with a 5:01.29.

The third GHY rider down the course was Trevor Louviere landing him an eighth place finish in Citizen 19-29 with a time of 4:24.98.

Just after 3:30 in the afternoon the Pro/Elite category was on course. Team rider Nick Tuttle dropped in mid-way through the pack and rode to 15th place in Pro Men with a time of 3:46.58.

The course was mentally and physically draining because riders needed to be on their toes at all times due to the technical challenge presented by the course. All in all the race was gnarly and everyone of the GHY riders left the race site having had a good weekend and looking forward to racing the course next year.

It started with an amazing drive mixed in with lots of beautiful Washington traffic (Jack knifed Semi). We arrived Friday with 2 hours left of practice and the sun peaking out.  It gave us hope for good days to come.  After three muddy practice runs, the dirt seemed to be getting better and better!  Hopefully it would be fast and tacky by the next day, thank god for my new Giro goggles, dirt was a flying Friday!

Saturday, woke up at 7 to head to the hill, on the way we hit the restaurant under the hotel, delicious. When we got to the top of the hill for more practice the dirt was still wet but drying up fast. I spent most of my time in the bushes trying to pick good lines, but AJ was doing good staying on course. I was trying to get all my crashing out of the way before my race runs. After our practice we walked up the hill to steal some pro lines, Bart McDaniel’s, Lars Sternberg and Nick Tuttle (GHY riders) were looking fast, really really fast. Many others looked good going down the hill, but these guys stood out. Unfortunately when we saw Casey Northern he was having a rough go of things. He ended up a second later with a bad case of “Brokenfingeritis” and had to sit this one out.  READ MORE….

Sunday, feeling killer after a good bacon maple bar, I was ready to do some racing. Got two practice runs in and I felt good, but unfortunately the tables had turned. AJ was the one in the bushes during Sundays practice not me. Dirt was now tacky and fast, but during my race run my visor fell into my line of sight. My fault for not fixing it sooner, but luckily I could see through a hole with one eye. Racing down the lower half of King Diamond, with one eye is interesting to say the least. After ripping it off in the middle of my race run I could see again and finished 6^th in my class with a 3:23:50. AJ’s run went a lot smoother than practice, he was conservative, pedaled more than usual and kept it on two wheels. He accomplished his goals and will be back to push it more. AJ finished 10^th with a 3:34:65. All in all a great weekend, great event and awesome food. Cant wait to see you all at the next one.
