Ray’s 3Ride MTB Competition

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

Early Thursday morning Phil and I (Crappis) boarded are plane heading to Cleveland, OH for the Rays MTB 3ride contest. Phil had a chance to go visit Rays while filming for the Atomlab video and was happy to be going back. This was my first time going and couldn’t wait to get there. After a couple of plane rides we were in Cleveland and Getting are bikes put to gather and heading over to the park.

Driving up to the park you would never know anything like this would be happening in this building. When you walk in you see all kinds of wooden structures and a giant wooden berm in the middle of the small box jump rhythm. Then you see the Moen course full of wooden berms and bridges. Then there are the big box jumps that surround the Moen course. Then in the back corner lays the skate park. This place has some thing for every one from all levels of riding.

Stevens Downhill Race

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007

Downhill biker cross is back on, Feb. 18th . Four riders @ time, top two advance ( I believe there is a losers bracket ) . The course is Sweet, boarder cross style, with Phat table top jumps (30′ wide and 10′ to 25′ tables with long tranies ), huge dished berms.

$45.00 gets a entry, lift ticket, organic cotton event shirt and in the raffle for a bunch of swag from are friends @ Stevens Pass, Kona, Cliff Bar, Haro, Anarchy, Das Rad Haus to name a few.

I believe there is $250, $125, $75 pro/cash class pay out . It is kind of weather dependant, last race date(1/8) we had 100mph winds and 83″ inches of new snow out of that storm, But short of another “HUGE” storm like that ,the Feb. 18 date is going to happen.

You don’t need Studded tires , just a helmet and any other protection you might wear.

The Gathering 2007

Friday, December 15th, 2006

First off we would like to thank everyone involved in years past for their sponsorship and support. Companies like Gravity , Pro-Tec, Six Six One, Transition, Skatebarn , and Mongoose, have made it possible for us to build and grow this event to become one of the biggest DJ/Park events in the US. We would like to give special thanks to Matt VanEnkevort and Max Ralph at Gravity Components for their enormous commitment to “TheGathering” 2006 and 2007.

With the closing of the Wide Open Sports Arena (Dirt Arena) there have been many obstacles for us to overcome this year. Venue is one of the key issues for holding any indoor comp in Washington State, especially in the month of January. After looking into numerous options, we feel that none of these facilities fit our requirements. “The Gathering” is a world class event and we intend to present it that way every time we put it on. We also have a responsibility to our sponsors and riders to raise the level from years past.

With that being said, as of now “The Gathering” 2007 is not going to happen on January 26th & 27th. It is possible that we will hold it closer to Sea Otter but that is still tentative. With the added stress of opening our storefront and online store , we felt we could not put 100% of our efforts towards “The Gathering”. We really look forward to “The Gathering” 2008.

We would also like to thank all of the riders that have come out over the last 2 years, the volunteers who have helped out, the spectators out there, and of course the media.

Keep posted to G.H.Y. Headquarters for upcoming events and other cool stuff to come.

Portland Jump Jam

Friday, August 12th, 2005

crappiswebready.gifFriday night Crappis shows up at my place ready to roll. Sean is in full swing and ready to party! The soobie is all loaded up and its about 6 o’clock, but wait…Chris shows up with the hair die, change of plans! The night before, Crappis and I went back and forth on dying our hair. Well, last minute, why not! Its now 7:30 and time to roll! We roll to F-dub (Federal Way) grab Brett and company.. KANKELS! Grab some grub and some good reading material at Y-not books and off to Phil’s to meet with everyone else. Now we are on the road, Sean and I got 2 sixers of Sparks on the way down, WOW! I had the shakes all night! We slept at a friend of Phil’s in Portland close to the comp. Next day bright and early we were on our way to the jump jam.

It was inside of the BMX park. Cool little area, on the left was a full track and the right was the skate/dj area. The layout had three small jumps, a box, half pipe and some other stuff. Many people showed up for this on their way to Crank Worx. Everyone seemed to have a great time, despite the 120 degree heat inside the park. (okay not really, but it was HOT!)

There was tons of great riding by all, the ams threw down and the pros rode well too considering they were on their way to the biggest event of the year. Chris Duncan pulled double bar spins, HUGE turn down 3’s, and much more. Crappis had a big no-handed no-foot can as well as flips and his trademarked Old school tuck no-hander! Phil was riding well almost hitting the roof with his back flips and tail-whips. Phil ended up 3rd over all and Crappis unfortunately over rotated a HUGE flip over the box and landed on his back, bruising his ribs, and mangled toe (That thing is nasty).

Overall the contest was a hit and next year should be even better. The guys did a great job and we look forward to more events in the future.
