North Sea-Tac BMX track

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

A.J. JohnsonOur local BMX track is going to have a work day on wednesday the 24th, 4PM until whenever.  Just a little clean up for the last race of the season.  This is an opportunity to check out the track if you have never been OR if you do use the track you can give a little back.  Sea-Tac BMX track has been around for a really long time and needs support from the bicycle community.  I know I raced there when I was a little kid.

NWD Premier went OFF

Eastern FrameLast Saturday was a whole lot of fun.  We started with a HUGE sale at the shop and then moved next door for the movie.  As always the Disorder movie was up to standards.  We had a great give away with help from Eastern bikes, Gravity Components, Xpedo Pedals, Vanderkitten clothing, Pro Tec, Smith Optics and Norco.  I must say that the Eastern frame is pretty tight.  I rode that same frame for a couple of days and only wanted a little larger one for myself.

A.J. Hacksaw Phil SundbaumI was stoked that Hacksaw came up from Oregon, along with Alex from RST suspension.  Here is Hacksaw Phil and me on the mic.We had a pretty good time and we should do some riding also next time.  Here are some stoked individuals who won super dope swag that was on hand.

Eastern Grips, Gravity Guide, Vanderkitten, Xpedo Pedals, Gravity Post, Smith Goggles, Xpedo again

If you missed this shindig then we will see you next time hopefully.

Vegas baby!

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Just like the rest of the bike industry ghy is sending a crew of folks down to Las Vegas for Interbike. AJ, Phil, Scott, and myself will be heading down to enjoy all that Vegas has to offer. While there is plenty of work to be done during the day I’m sure we’ll find a way to keep ourselves busy at night.

My goal is to bring you info on the stuff that matters most to you. All you have to do is leave a comment in the posts and I’ll try to take a pic or video. I’ll also keep myself busy by hunting down the craziest stuff I see at Interbike because there is more to the convention than just the latest suspension linkage.

Just an FYI: The shop will be closed on Tuesday like normal, but it will also be closed on Wednesday. Speaking of the shop click below to check out some pics of how it is looking now a days. There is plenty more not pictured but this should give you a good idea of what’s going on.

The Gallon Challenge

Monday, September 24th, 2007

MilkReady Set GO!The local BMX kids are always asking for free stuff.  So in our infinite wisdom we thought we would hold an impossible contest.   This would atleast give them hope of some free swag.  We put up for the winner a apir of S&M Grand Slam BMX Bars.  The contest is this…Drink a gallon of whole milk in one hour without throwing up.  We had four kids up to the challenge…Bill, Tyler, Burn-E, & Cody.  Tyler started off at a Tyler Puke on Handgood pace and at 15 minutes was more than half of the way done.  Bill was a close second and the other two were pacing themselves.  Cody was the first out, having to go eat dinner…I think because he lost his lunch just outside the door in the gutter.  Then the quick pace Last Pullthat Tyler had going caught up to him.  He started turning colors and eventually puked all over himself and the garbage can.  Now there were two.  Bill was doing the best and at 10 minutes left looked as though he would finish.  But the dreaded cottage cheese gut started to take effect.  Burn-E just Bill Unloadsstarted to lay on the sidewalk and pushed his milk away.  We convinced Bill in the last minute that he should try to chug the remainder of his warm milk.  That lasted about ten seconds and up came a display that not too many people can believe.  He spewed for atleast 5 seconds straight…I would describe it as a fountain of gross.  Each contender came away with a little swag, but the bars remained hanging on the wall.

Small Rider Owned Companies

Friday, September 14th, 2007

Vegas ResistanceMountain bike companies are just now hitting the second generation.  The kids that grew up riding real ATB bikes are now the age to make a difference on our sport.  It is much like the BMX companies that are mostly rider owned.  As these small companies grow, there creative sides tend to show through.  Interbike is coming in about a week and the cost to have a booth inside can be crippling for a new company.  Some people would rather spend there money in advertising and some have found a loophole to the whole deal.  Transition bikes did it last year and now they are adding a couple more rider owned companies to the list.  They have an offsite condo that houses there own splinterbike.  They have carved a piece for themselves off of the interbike log.  This unfortunately is by appointment only.  Deity has joined, along with Canfield Bros., RockGardn, and Spectrum Clothing.  All these guys will be showing there products in a relaxed environment with refreshments easily accessable.  Just a glimpse at what rider owned companies can and will do to make things fun.

Note:  The NEW Blindside from Transition is now available.  Just call to book your order now. g.h.y. bikes………800-979-HUCK

Helter Belter…a little jam in the woods

Billy Lewis pedal stallThanks to Landon at Tonic Fab we were informed of a small get together at this crazy compound in the middle of somewhere?  Landon had gathered a bunch of riders to come to this guys house where he had built a ton of mounds walls and dirt spines.  Amos is the owner of the ORV/ATB/BMX park right next to his house.  It was pretty fun riding all the different stuff he had going on.  The spine to wall ride was the first thing to get sessioned.  With people like Hacksaw, Luciano, Aaron Nachtrab, Charlie Sponsel and Billy Lewis havin fun it was a great atmosphere.  Heres Billy pedal stalling the Dirty Booger wall.

Justin InmanAfter a little while Phil Sundbaum started riding and also some BMX rippers showed up.  Heres a killer shot of Justin Inman throwin one of his signature tables higher than that spine should allow.  The BBQ was going on with chicken, steak, salmon….pretty much everything you vcan imagine.  They had a dope spread.

Amos’ TruckThere was two jump lines that went down the hillside in to the valley of 4X4.  Heres a shot of the loudest beast around.  One comment I overheard from a passenger was “did the seatbelt pop off on you?  It did when I rode in it.”  A couple people went for rides and came back pretty soiled.  Good Times.

AST Dew Tour Portland

Monday, August 20th, 2007

Dew DirtWent down to Portland for the Dew tour this last weekend.  Pretty much some of the best riding I have seen live ever.  I was lucky enough to get some sweet seats from Mongoose.  The first event was dirt and it was super sick.  Tons of stuff on youtube.  There was one trick that they had to watch the replay just to see what went on.  Anthony Nepoliton pulled a front flip, tire grab, barspin.  Insane.

Catfish BMX

Catfish from DK/System Cycle announces the Dew Tour.  Probably one of the best choices since he was hilarious on the mic.  The park comp was out of hand.  I think that the list of tricks will shut it down, so here we go.  1080, triple tailwhip, 720 barspin, 900, tailwhip 720.  any questions.  I think that Daniel Dhers should of won and also Diogo from Diamondback is a new one to watch.

Half PipeLast on the BMX line-up was vert.  Not my personal favorite but I was so glad I went.  The arena looked so cool and the air that they pull out of the pipe is pretty amazing, even from high up!  It was cool to see DMC the 40 year old kill the pipe and then assault some flatland at the bottom.

Oh I almost forgot.  I saw two crazy funny things that have to be mentioned.

rg1.jpg#1.  This one usher tried to kick out T.J. Lavin out of the V.I.P. section because he had a athlete pass.

#2  Being hassled by a security guard Ryan Geuttler was drinkin his coke outside the event about a half hour after prelims.  He had already had a couple before this and so he downed the drink and dropped his plastic glass and ice on the ground shattering.  Quite possibly one of the funniest things that I have seen in a while.

Ben Boyko wins Crankworks 2007

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

Ben Boyko 360 drop at crankworks 2007Congratulation’s to Ben for throwin it down on the last drop when no one else was steppin up…without goin DOWN HARD.  Its awesome to see a good guy win this event, and on a Norco to boot.  Norco is newly aquired and available at G.H.Y Bikes/Gohuckyourself by the way!!!

During the event there was some stupid promo about seeing a Sasquatch.  Probably one of the most annoying skits I have seen.  That was up until he made his appearance.  I think Jordie was dressed up and had three kokanee girls chacing him in skinsuits.  The outfits left nothing to the Sasquatch at Whistlerimagination…I could read there lips from 20 paces, pretty hot.  Note: one was Cedrics ex-girlfriend.

Our boy Phil Sundbaum did not make the big show but was there to lend support to Lutze from Match.  He is a bad-ass trials rider in his off time.  I watched some later runs with Lutze and Jeff Lenosky.  It was pretty impressive.  Hop brake, hop brake, skinny log, rock Aaron Lutze Fansand water.  Thats the cliffnotes for ya.

So I have not went to Whistler since opening the shop and was super stoked to ride.  Had so much fun on the new trails and partied hard as usual.  I was unfortunately not that stoked about the event.  I have talked to many people who just thought that the feel was not there this year.  I am not just talking about the slopestyle either.  All of the components that Paul Basagoitiashould make a killer event were drawn together.  Vendors, Pro’s, Races, Demos, Poutine, and of course the best venue in the world.  Just a little touch on the feel of the event.

It was super busy, to be expected.  I got to ride plenty, so stoked!

Thanks to Cory for the pics and whistler for the good time!
