Cruisin and Floatin

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Since we finally have some good weather in old Washington state we are going to start up our Friday night cruiser rides.  June 27th will be the first of many Renton cruises.  Bring out any kind of bike and check Rentons sites.  We meet at the shop at 6:30-7:00 and then we usually get out about 7:30.  From there anything can happen.  Usually it is down to the lake and back with some bar hopin involved.  Bring yourself and a bike.  We will see you then.

Also since the weather is on our side this weekend a few of us will be floating the Cedar.  I am thinking around 1pm will be a good time to meet at the shop.  We will depart from there and float for a while down the rapids of the cedar.

Try out some Norco bikes

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Some of the best bikes that I have seen in a while are the 2008 Norcos.  I am a little biased since I am riding one of the Norco Shore 1’s.  If you are heading down to Oregon or live in that area go try out some of these bikes they rip.  On the 4th of July week-end the Norco Demo truck will be holding two demo days in Oregon.

Please mark Saturday July 5 and 6 on your calendar and join Norco at Mt Hood Ski Bowl and Black Rock in Falls City.

We are into 24 hour racing now

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Not really us, but we were contacted by a super nice rider who rides a Norco and wanted some support for the year. She stopped by and we were a good fit to help her with her bike maintenance. Here is a report from her first race of the season in Spokane.

Last weekend was my first 24hr race of the season … in Spokane, Washington. I was looking forward to the weekend as Fraser had put together a 5 man team (which at the last minute turned into a 3-man team) so it was going to be a bit of a social weekend as well (well, during my 2 minute pits anyway!).

Fraser and I drove (ok, he drove, I relaxed) up to Spokane on Friday morning and got there around 3pm to snag a nice camping spot/pit for the race. We were right on the course which was perfect for me. Having the trailer sure is nice … we roll up and I can pretty much sleep right away. It is so comfortable and easy. I was loving it. What wasn’t so nice was the headwind which greeted us on the way to Spokane. The wind was brutal and at one point we were getting about 4 miles a gallon!!!!! Crazy.

So, the race started at noon and Will, our friend who is living in San Francisco, drew the short straw on Fraser’s team and got to start with me. He decided to use my pacing off the start and we were pretty much the last ones to finish the run (I am not kidding - there were maybe two guys behind us). All according to plan. We headed into the bike and it didn’t take Will long to pick up the pace and leave me in the dust…. I was once again in my own world and in the 24hr zone. (more…)

US Open….Double Win for Norco !!!

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

The 2008 US Open was a great success for Griffiths Racing and the Norco World Team. With two 1st place finishes in both the DH and the Slalom events Fionn was stoked on her weekends racing.

DH practice on the Friday went well although conditions were extremely un- predictable.

“With the track as rough and rocky as it is here at Diablo Freeride park,
the conditions in practice were unforgivable, just finding yourself slightly
off line in the wet rocks will more than likely end in tears or at least with
a quick nature appreciation visit to a near buy tree.”

Fionn escaped a fairly big crash on the wet rocks without major injury, just a couple of bumps and bruises to show for her efforts.

NWDC III party at the RMC

So the new Northwest Dirt Culture movie is out and the premier was a blast.  Greg put out his best movie to date and the DVD is on the streets.  He put together a great swag toss and kickoff party.  Heres a few pictures of what went down.

Rainier Cup Review

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Last drop at SSTWell the day started off with everyone scrambling to get the 6 cases of beer, 100 hot dogs, stop watches, tape, and get everything back to the flow park.  But once we did get everything there it was one of the best times I have had at a bike event in a long time.  The race started after everyone was satisfied that they practiced enough.  The racing was pretty fun since the downhill part has been cut in down to the creek.  The last drop was the place to watch for sure.  It gave almost everyone a little kick sideways.  After two runs the times were stacked like this HERE.

Jake Hopple send bike into orbit. Colton is amazed.Since everything was so much fun up until then why not fire up the BBQ throw on some dogs and play some Huffy Toss.  Norm and Jake were the test pilots.  Norm had a good launch but nobody expected the NASA commander Jake Hopple was in the house.  He hauled ass into the jump and sent that bike into orbit.  Just check out Coltons face in the background.  Not only is he looking at the bike but the expression is priceless.

Once again we thank all that came out and all that helped.  Thank Travis and Angie next time you see them…thats for sure.  Click Here for more pics.

Jim Dellavalle teaching with Shaums March

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Mad March Racing Announces Urban Freeride camp at Ray’s Indoor Bike Park. CLEVELAND, OH - Though the weather outside is frightful, on January 11th Ray’s Indoor Park in Cleveland, OH will be more than delightful! Shaums and the MMR crew of coaches will hold a one-day “closed session” of Freeride Skills. “ I have been to Rays twice over the past couple years and each time I see the park continually growing and getting more fun to ride.” MMR owner and founder, Shaums March, continues, “after discussing ideas with Ray, I instantly saw the potential for them to host Urban Freeride clinics. Riding outside this time of year is tough, but there is still a demand to ride and learn!”

Interbike..still not dead yet

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

Phil and A.J. gamblinHere is my take on Interbike.  There is 100lbs of crap in a 5lb bag.  So there is some quality stuff among the dead wood.  This year Phil, Drew (our computer tech) and I went to assault Vegas.  I found out Phil and I have two passions in common, riding and gambling.  With many hours drinking and pushing buttons and throwin dice it was hard to make the rounds at the show.  If you have not been before it basically takes 3 days of walking to see everything in the place.  Thats a lot of bike stuff.

Eastern Black BettyHere are some of the things that I think are worth taking a look.  First off lets start with the hardtail I am trying to ride this year.  It is an Eastern…from BMX fame.  So the short back end will be easy to manual and perfect for any street/park situation.  HINT:  take a look at the headtube.
