Rainier Cup Review

Last drop at SSTWell the day started off with everyone scrambling to get the 6 cases of beer, 100 hot dogs, stop watches, tape, and get everything back to the flow park.  But once we did get everything there it was one of the best times I have had at a bike event in a long time.  The race started after everyone was satisfied that they practiced enough.  The racing was pretty fun since the downhill part has been cut in down to the creek.  The last drop was the place to watch for sure.  It gave almost everyone a little kick sideways.  After two runs the times were stacked like this HERE.

Jake Hopple send bike into orbit. Colton is amazed.Since everything was so much fun up until then why not fire up the BBQ throw on some dogs and play some Huffy Toss.  Norm and Jake were the test pilots.  Norm had a good launch but nobody expected the NASA commander Jake Hopple was in the house.  He hauled ass into the jump and sent that bike into orbit.  Just check out Coltons face in the background.  Not only is he looking at the bike but the expression is priceless.

Once again we thank all that came out and all that helped.  Thank Travis and Angie next time you see them…thats for sure.  Click Here for more pics.

Ray’s 3Ride MTB Competition

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

Early Thursday morning Phil and I (Crappis) boarded are plane heading to Cleveland, OH for the Rays MTB 3ride contest. Phil had a chance to go visit Rays while filming for the Atomlab video and was happy to be going back. This was my first time going and couldn’t wait to get there. After a couple of plane rides we were in Cleveland and Getting are bikes put to gather and heading over to the park.

Driving up to the park you would never know anything like this would be happening in this building. When you walk in you see all kinds of wooden structures and a giant wooden berm in the middle of the small box jump rhythm. Then you see the Moen course full of wooden berms and bridges. Then there are the big box jumps that surround the Moen course. Then in the back corner lays the skate park. This place has some thing for every one from all levels of riding.

Tech Tip from Phil Sundbaum…Hockey Bag

#1 Use a hockey bag to transport your bike and pay $0.00 dollarsShipping Ideas

#2 To save the frame from getting pinched, use a threaded rod and wingnuts.

#3 Use Towels to pack the frame and take off rotors.

Crappis kicking it with his bottle rocketThis video was filmed for Interbike as a Sponsor video. Almost all of the clips were filmed in one day. Sean Masai and A.J. filmed the vid and Sean edited the thing in an hour. Pretty killer if you ask me.

Portland Jump Jam

crappiswebready.gifFriday night Crappis shows up at my place ready to roll. Sean is in full swing and ready to party! The soobie is all loaded up and its about 6 o’clock, but wait…Chris shows up with the hair die, change of plans! The night before, Crappis and I went back and forth on dying our hair. Well, last minute, why not! Its now 7:30 and time to roll! We roll to F-dub (Federal Way) grab Brett and company.. KANKELS! Grab some grub and some good reading material at Y-not books and off to Phil’s to meet with everyone else. Now we are on the road, Sean and I got 2 sixers of Sparks on the way down, WOW! I had the shakes all night! We slept at a friend of Phil’s in Portland close to the comp. Next day bright and early we were on our way to the jump jam.

It was inside of the BMX park. Cool little area, on the left was a full track and the right was the skate/dj area. The layout had three small jumps, a box, half pipe and some other stuff. Many people showed up for this on their way to Crank Worx. Everyone seemed to have a great time, despite the 120 degree heat inside the park. (okay not really, but it was HOT!)

There was tons of great riding by all, the ams threw down and the pros rode well too considering they were on their way to the biggest event of the year. Chris Duncan pulled double bar spins, HUGE turn down 3’s, and much more. Crappis had a big no-handed no-foot can as well as flips and his trademarked Old school tuck no-hander! Phil was riding well almost hitting the roof with his back flips and tail-whips. Phil ended up 3rd over all and Crappis unfortunately over rotated a HUGE flip over the box and landed on his back, bruising his ribs, and mangled toe (That thing is nasty).

Overall the contest was a hit and next year should be even better. The guys did a great job and we look forward to more events in the future.
